I personally don't like the default texture pack. On a LED screen, it just looks awful (looked decent on J0ttem's LCD screen though). I'm glad I found Wayukian Pack, or I wouldn't be playing Minecraft at all I also like to use Derelict or Last Days on the Vault world on our server, because it looks pretty apocalyptic (which was the initial intention of the FallOut spoof). If you played Castlevania on the SNES, Craftslevania is nice. Minecraft 4 Kids just looks funny as hell. I also tried DocuCraft which J0ttem likes, it's between Wayukian and default in terms of style. If you haven't tried a texture pack before, DocuCraft is a great option, there's a minimal of culture shock. I didn't include Strongestcraft, because that's basically a wallhack
I like the default textures aswell as the LB texture pack I am using right now. I must say that the so-called "HD" texture packs give better looking graphics (note the difference between better and better looking) when you're mining underground: more eyecandy when you find minerals. Maybe I'll try out some new texture packs some day but I do not really feel the need for using a third party texture pack if it's not "HD", I might aswell use the default pack then.
A texturepack above 32x32 doesn't feel like Minecraft to me. I don't really give a shit about it being "HD". Wayukian Pack is 16x16, but the art style is so amazing that I don't want anything else.
Perhaps I will give it a try, but not now. My cat has barfed a shitload under my table. Wasted 15/20 minutes of my day cleaning up the barf. >.>
I always clean that up with vinegar. And after that, I spread some chili powder. Cats don't like vinegar or chili powder, so that way they'll learn to barf outside or in the litter box.
Same as Miauw above me, I like both the LB as the normal one, mostly use the normal one since I want to see my own world in it's natural glory.
As Refalm stated, DokuCraft (the light variant) is my favorite texture pack at the moment. It has a Fantasy/RPG-ish style. I used to be a vanilla-guy, preferring the default texture pack, but after I got used to DocuCraft I can't stand it anymore
Spoutcraft has a bug where sometimes a texture pack doesn't get loaded for prerendered chunks. This provides a perfect opportunity to show why the default texture pack is unimaginative and has a heretic colour palette. The following screenshots compare Wayukian Pack to the default. That happens to be my favourite, but Dokucraft or Sphax are also good.
What you don't understand is that usually an artist makes the graphics on video games. This is because programmers are usually limited when it comes to designing. When the textures of Minecraft were created, it was apparent that Notch has no understanding or feeling for basic colour palette, theme, and temperature. The default textures have the palette of Microsoft Paint, and are known in the industry as "programmer graphics". The default textures were supposed to be replaced by an artist work, but Notch fired the creative guy, because Notch is socially awkward. Mojang did hire an artist in the end, but only updated small things like grass colour (thank fuck for that, way less eyesore). Notch and the mostly autistic fanbase of Minecraft would light Mojang's office on fire if they actually replaced the programmer graphics with art. Verstuurd vanaf mijn Sony Xperia SP met Tapatalk
