I interned IT at a Dutch high school four years ago. They were also stupid. They didn't know how to block websites, so some teacher was walking by student PC's all the time. They didn't know how to do proper back-ups, so they manually extracted e-mails from Outlook Express then copied them on DVD's. They had all PC's outfitted with static IP addresses, because otherwise it would become "uncontrollable". They didn't know what dnsmasq was until I tried explaining it to them, so they used to fill in the ISP's DNS in all computers instead of their own gateway. They had to hire a student to recompile VNC for them to hide the config icon, because kids disabled it or changed the password. All computers had local admin rights. The message service was on everywhere so kids mass spammed curse words to the whole school. They used coaxial network instead of UTP, because 100 Mb/s was "too fast for the computers to handle". There's lots of other weird bullshit going on there, but basically they were lazy. They didn't want the school to have a good network, and they kept lying to directors that stuff wasn't possible.
I usually just play with my fingers or memories when im bored. But memories is dangerous, it gives me the creeps.
Yes, my mum's laptop has failed, so I have to fix it. It needs a new HDD, I backuped all her stuff, though.
I'm guessing it's more than the hard drive, since the BIOS interface froze I hope that it's just a bad sector and you can reinstall. Otherwise, you'd have to go to some douchebag overprized computerstore.
