Nice. I hope a lot of 3rd party developers will jump the bandwagon too. I also hope Valve will smart up and provide support for integrated Wine for games that aren't Linux native yet. It's going to take a while though. Valve had to convert everything to the Mac's shitty OpenGL implementation to make it work on their platform, and they have to convert a lot of code for Linux too, even though XOrg has way better OpenGL integration. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=valve_linux_dampfnudeln Important links (edit): Steam Linux library Steam for Linux hub Steam Linux client Valve Linux team Install Code: wget http://media.steampowered.com/client/installer/steam.deb sudo apt-get install gdebi-core sudo gdebi steam.deb
It's official now: http://blogs.valvesoftware.com/linux Gaben is hiring a lot of Linux talent away from other companies (don't worry, only boring stuff like AutoCAD). What does this all mean? In a while, no more :breakcomp:

See Left 4 Dead 2 for Linux in action: http://gstconf.ubicast.tv/videos/opengl-and-mesa-development/ Skip to 00:27:00 You can clearly see there are a few texture quirks left, but it overall looks nice.
The deb file is 1 MB, so not much weight I can't test it yet though, it's useless without beta access.
You don't need to have access anymore, it's released now Install now: Code: wget http://media.steampowered.com/client/installer/steam.deb sudo apt-get install gdebi-core sudo gdebi steam.deb
